Merchiston Steakhouse 489 has well and truly earnt his place in the hall of fame here at KJ. Steakhouse would have to be one of the most influential sires to have stepped foot in this breeding program. From the day he arrived at KJ we knew he was something special and he sure went on and bred that way. We have sold over 60 Steakhouse sons for an average of over $12,000. Sons have headed North and south throughout New Zealand, and the feedback has been phenomenal. He is wide based, displays thick heavy muscling from back to front that can’t be matched and volume that every breeder strives for. Steakhouse is a bull that breeds with a cooky cutter, progeny are extremely consistent in type and he stamps them all with the huge Steakhouse back-ends.

His daughters are an article that we are extremely proud of and they are breeding the house down. The demand for Steakhouse progeny has outstripped any other bloodline and we have an extremely good son in the sire paddock here at KJ.

KAYJAY MEATPACK R410

KJ Meatpack R410 is straight out of the Steakhouse factory and is arguably one of the best sons to come. Meatpack was weaned at 390kg out of 600kg cow on the 20 th of March. He displays all the traits we strive for in a sire and we cant wait for his first crop of progeny. The demand and interest in Meatpack leading up to our 2022 R2 bull sale form within NZ and Australia was absolutely amazing. Western Australian Semen rights were sold to Mordullup Angus two months out from sale which was the catalyst for us to withdraw Meatpack from the sale and keep him here at KJ. In his first year breeding he has gone to over 50 cows naturally and was mated on the hills where he performed amazingly.

MEADOWSLEA MOUNTAIN MAN R705

The New Zealand high priced bull of 2022, Purchased for a whopping $92,500. After viewing bulls from around NZ we felt that Mountain Man was the most suited to our program and made the investment to purchase him outright. Mountain Man has a stacked pedigree with generations of longevity. Both grandsires on either side were still alive at 13 years of age and his dam is still going at 11 years. He is a bull that displays great cover and soft fleshing. He moves well with top disposition and will breed efficient females. We have used him over KJ Bond and Steakhouse Daughters. We think these crosses are going to knit extremely well and cannot wait for progeny to come in 2023.

Prime Minister was the Australasian high seller of 2020, selling for $140,000. We were fortunate enough to secure NZ semen rights and have his first crop of calves coming through to weaning in March 2023. We viewed Prime Minister in 2022 and were really impressed with the sire and his progeny that were on display at Ascot Angus, Queensland Australia. PM is a bull that adds length, muscling, a genuine sires outlook and has an extremely impressive data set with great IMF. With some outstanding bull calves coming through it is fair to say we couldn’t be more excited to get these genetics available to clients.

Purchased in 2012 for $35,000. Atahua Freedom 609-10 displayed enormous amounts of fleshing, length and an extremely wide EMA. He bred real softness into his progeny and we have some great cows in the herd sired by Freedom. Arguably one of the best Braveheart sons to come through in NZ.

Taimate Laser was the high seller at Taimate in 2020 selling for $86,000. Lasers progeny are wide based, long with tremendous amounts of meat and are extremely soft fleshed. In 2022 We sold 9 sons for an average of $16,000.

TANGIHAU THICKSET Q354

Tangihau Thickset was purchased for our heifers in 2021 for $28,000. He has done a tremendous job in the heifer mating area with calves all being around 26-33kg. Thickset is a bull that I feel will add so much value in the heifer mating industry as he has so many positive traits and has the pedigree performance that makes him so much more than the terminal sire you would normally find in the heifer mating market. Thicksets carcass is absolutely packed with meat, he displays beautiful soft fleshing and length of EMA. Thicksets daughters will be kept here at KJ and his sons will be very valuable to clients in the heifer market.
